Charlemagne was the son of Pepin, and was the king of Franks.  He gathered all the Anglo-Saxon soldiers and went to conquer the Lombards, and old enemy that fought with his father.  Later when Charlemagne reached the border of Spain, he left his nephew, Roland, to be the commander of the rear guard.  When they were climbing the mountain, they saw their enemy below them and above.  His friend asked him to sound the horn to call the king back, but Roland do not want to bring disgrace to the kingdom.  His army urged him to blow the horn, so he blew it loudly.  Charlemagne heard it, but the traitor next to him said it was the sound of the wind, and Roland blew the second time.  The traitor said it was Roland hunting in the woods.  He continue to fight on and blew the third time.  The king was sad because he delayed so he set full speed back to Roland.  Roland died facing his enemies and Spain.
